Wayne “Woody” Powell holds a Bachelor’s degree in Philosophy with a minor in United States History from the University of Florida. He has more than a decade of experience working one-on-one with students and believes that the best learning happens through curiosity, conversation, and thoughtful analysis. His background in philosophy informs his teaching style, encouraging students to think critically about historical events, evaluate evidence, and develop strong arguments.

Woody particularly enjoys helping students connect historical events to broader themes about power, society, and human decision-making. By breaking down complex ideas into clear and engaging discussions, he helps students build confidence while developing the analytical skills needed to succeed in advanced history courses and English courses.

Outside of teaching, Woody enjoys writing fiction, attending live music, and exploring history and philosophy.

Favorite book:
East of Eden by John Steinbeck

Best advice I ever received from a teacher:
"Learning how to think is more valuable than learning what to think".
